Department: Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering

Degree: Master’s of Science in Environmental Engineering

Year in Program: 2nd year

Madi Brake was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and attended the University of Alabama for her undergraduate degree in environmental engineering. Graduating with her bachelor’s degree in May of 2023, Madi is currently pursuing her master’s degree in the same field. As an NRT Trainee, Madi’s research is currently focused on streamflow reconstruction of the Adige River Basin in northern Italy, using both paleo tree ring proxies and artificial intelligence as models for the reconstruction. The intent is to compare the results of the traditional regression methods to novel AI / machine learning techniques with the goal of evaluating uncertainty in streamflow reconstructions using tree-ring-based-proxies. Outside of her NRT research, Madi is a certified Engineer Intern in the state of Alabama and works at a local engineering firm focusing on municipal drinking water and wastewater solutions. She expects to graduate with her master’s degree in environmental engineering in May of 2024.
