Bayisa Tulu Areda is a first-year Ph.D. student in Geography at The University of Alabama. His research focuses on hydrology, water resources, and hydrologic extremes, with an emphasis on low-flow and hydrological drought analysis across the U.S., aims to develop standardized and impact-based approaches for identifying and characterizing low-flow and drought conditions across diverse hydroclimatic regions of the United States. His broader research interests include hydrologic modeling, operational hydrology, hydroclimatology, machine learning applications in hydrology, remote sensing and GIS for water resources, climate and land-use change impacts, and drought and flood risk assessment. Through his research, he seeks to advance data-driven and physically based approaches that improve hydrologic forecasting, drought monitoring, and sustainable water resources management
